The Art of Intentions with Durana Elmi: Co-Founder and COO of Cymbiotika

This month, as we approach International Women’s Day, we’re spotlighting women who are not only building powerful companies, but redefining what leadership looks and feels like from the inside out. It feels especially meaningful to begin this conversation before the day itself, honoring the kind of strength that is intentional, grounded, and deeply rooted in purpose.

Durana Elmi, Co-Founder and COO of Cymbiotika, embodies that evolution of leadership. She is not simply scaling a brand, she is shaping a movement anchored in transparency, integrity, and long term vision. From refugee to founder, from operator to guardian of a mission driven company, her story is layered with resilience, discernment, and an unwavering commitment to building something that lasts.

In this edition of The Art of Intentions, Durana reflects on feminine leadership, sovereignty over time and energy, and what it truly means to build from conviction rather than comparison.

For those who may know Cymbiotika but not your story personally, how would you describe your role in shaping the brand from the inside out?

I have always believed brands are felt before they are understood. From the inside out, my role has been to build Cymbiotika as a movement, not just a supplement company. Operationally, I serve as COO, but energetically, I guard the vision. I have shaped how we communicate transparency, how we formulate with integrity, and how we show up culturally, philanthropically, and experientially. It was never just about formulas. It was about trust. Trust in ingredients. Trust in messaging. Trust in leadership. Every touchpoint, from our liposomal delivery system to our retail expansion and partnerships, must reflect the same standard of intention. When you build from the inside with integrity, the outside scales naturally.

Cymbiotika started out solving a gap in wellness, but it’s become a lifestyle brand with cultural relevance. What was the first moment you felt like the company was on the verge of something much bigger than supplements?

There was not one viral moment. It was a shift in frequency. When I began seeing women carry Cymbiotika in their handbags next to their lip gloss, when athletes, artists, founders, and mothers seamlessly integrated it into their routines, I knew we had transcended product. When quality meets lifestyle, it becomes unstoppable. Our individual packet form factor was designed intentionally to fit into anyone’s day, and when we saw it being utilized far beyond the wellness community we initially built, it marked a new trajectory. I realized we were not selling vitamins alone. We were offering ownership, lifestyle, longevity, and a new standard for self care.

You've shown Cymbiotika in fashion, luxury, and pop culture environments, how do you decide which events and brands truly align with the brand versus those that simply have buzz?

We do not chase proximity to fame. We look for resonance. Cymbiotika did not begin in luxury rooms or cultural circles. It organically found its way there because the product delivered and the integrity was undeniable. When something is formulated with intention and backed by transparency, it travels. It reaches the hands of tastemakers, leaders, and innovators across industries because it belongs there. Buzz is exciting, but it is fleeting. Longevity is built differently. It is rooted in community, in shared values, and in partnering with individuals who have the same appetite for revolutionizing health and wellness. When we evaluate events or brands, we look first at alignment, dedication to craft regardless of industry, and transparency in how they operate and what they stand for. Every opportunity must elevate the mission without diluting it. It must expand our message while protecting its integrity. Alignment compounds over time. Noise evaporates.

If you had to build a simple supplement routine for someone new to Cymbiotika, what would you include?

I always believe in building a foundation first. I would start my day with Liposomal Vitamin C and Liposomal Glutathione to support immune health, cellular protection, detoxification, and collagen production. With breakfast, I would take Brain Complex to support clarity and sustained cognitive focus throughout the day. Before bed, I rely on Liposomal Magnesium Complex to support nervous system regulation, muscle relaxation, and deeper restorative sleep. Wellness is not about overwhelm. It is about consistency. Start simple, stay consistent, and allow your body to respond. Sustainability is the real luxury.

What are your non-negotiable wellness rituals? Are there specific Cymbiotika formulas you personally rely on, and why?

My non-negotiables are sleep, movement, sauna, and supplementation. I prioritize morning hydration and sunlight exposure. I strength train consistently, and I protect my nighttime wind down with low light and no overstimulation. The formulas I rely on are those that support stress response, cognitive clarity, cellular health, gut integrity, and longevity because as a mother, founder, and operator, I require sustained energy, not spikes. I incorporate our colostrum daily as a delicious and nourishing addition to my routine. It supports my hair, skin, and nails while strengthening immunity and gut health. I heavily rely on liposomal glutathione for cellular protection, detoxification, antioxidant support, and digestive health, and I use liposomal NAD+ to support cellular energy production, mitochondrial function, healthy aging, and mental clarity. For me, wellness is about protecting my capacity at a foundational level so that I can lead from a place of strength, clarity, and fulfillment.

International Women’s Day often celebrates resilience and strength. What does strength mean to you now, compared to when you first started your career?

When I first began my career, strength meant endurance. It meant pushing through, outworking, and proving myself. Today, strength means boundaries. It means discernment. It means knowing when to expand and when to pause. I have learned to say no to opportunities that would stretch me too thin. There is no more chasing rewards or accomplishments. I do my best each day and allow my actions to compound. True strength is sovereignty over your time, your body, and your energy.

What do you think women uniquely bring to leadership, especially in the wellness space?

Women understand nuance. We lead multidimensionally. We are emotionally intelligent, strategically sharp, and intuitively aware. In the wellness space, that depth matters profoundly. We do not just look at metrics. We look at impact. We do not just build revenue. We build ecosystems and communities. Feminine leadership integrates rather than dominates, and integration builds longevity.

What do you hope women feel when they see you leading at this level?

Permission. Permission to take up space. Permission to be both feminine and formidable. Permission to build without shrinking. I came to this country as a refugee in my mother’s arms, a woman who carried hope for safety and stability. Today, I look at where I came from and recognize that my life reflects the American dream. In my country of origin, Afghanistan, women are banned from education and work. I understand my privilege deeply. To know where you are going, you must know where you came from.

If my presence signals to even one woman that she can sit at the table without softening her ambition, that is impact. Most importantly, for my daughters Ariana and Yasmine, I hope my audacity inspires them to flourish into the women they dream of becoming without apology.

What does living intentionally actually look like in your day to day life?

Intentional living is found in micro decisions. It is the supplements I choose, the meetings I say yes to, the partnerships I decline, and the way I speak to my team. Every choice compounds. My intention is always to leave people and places better than I found them. Sometimes that requires delivering hard truths, but honesty creates trust, and trust builds legacy. Intentionality is discipline in disguise.

If you could leave behind one advice for women building something of their own, what would it be?

Build from conviction, not comparison. The market will always be noisy. Trends will shift and opinions will fluctuate. You must block out the noise and cultivate an inner knowing that you are on the right path, even when that path is not entirely clear. When you feel like giving up, remember it is a privilege to continue. There are women in this world who never had the chance to begin. If your mission is rooted in truth and you protect your integrity fiercely, longevity becomes inevitable. Do not rush legacy. Design it according to your spirit and your purpose.
