Tulsi, also known as holy basil, is a culinary and medicinal herb that is indigenous to India and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 3000 years. In Ayurveda, an ancient system of traditional medicine used in India and other Asian countries, Tulsi has been referred to as an “Elixir of Life” for its powerful healing benefits in the body.
There have been many in vitro animal and human studies that can attest to this herb having many therapeutic benefits including being a powerful adaptogen, along with having antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects. Based on some of these studies that have been done, tulsi has been suggested as an effective treatment for chronic diseases such as diabetes, stress, and metabolic syndrome- which is a cluster of conditions that can lead to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Tulsi has been found helpful to protect organs and tissues from chemical stress due to environmental pollutants and heavy metals, and also physical stress from excessive physical exertion, restraint, exposure to cold and noise. Along with this, tulsi has also been shown to be able to normalize blood glucose, blood pressure, and physiological stress by inducing positive effects on memory and cognitive function through its anti-depressant properties.
In terms of its antimicrobial properties, tulsi has been used for thousands of years for protection against human and animal pathogens and can be used as a hand sanitizer, mouthwash, and water purifier.
We have incorporated Organic Tulsi Extract into our Adrenal Supertonic for its ability to preserve the other ingredients in this formula and for the antimicrobial properties it contains-- plus, it adds a delicious flavor as well!
