In this edition of Why We Made It, Cymbiotika Co Founder and Chief Science Officer Chervin Jafarieh shares the thinking behind the brand’s Liposomal NAD+ formula.

From the science of mitochondrial energy to why delivery systems matter just as much as ingredients, Chervin walks through the philosophy and formulation decisions that shaped this product.

Some formulas come together quickly. Others take years of thinking, refining, and honestly wrestling with the science until it feels right. Our Liposomal NAD+ is one of those.

For a long time, I’ve been focused on what really drives premature aging and resilience at the deepest level. When you strip away all the marketing nonsense we are all bombarded with and just follow the biology, you keep landing in the same place: NAD+.

It’s not a buzzword. NAD+ is a required coenzyme in the body. This is why I have been a maniac with my niacin rituals over the years. Without proper NAD function, your cells cannot produce ATP efficiently. Your mitochondria can’t do their job properly. DNA repair enzymes don’t function the way they’re supposed to. The pathways that regulate stress response and cellular aging depend on it.

And the reality is, NAD+ declines as we get older. It declines with stress. It declines with poor sleep, artificial light, parasite infestation, toxin exposure, and the pace of modern life. When that happens, it’s not just that you “feel tired.” It’s that your cellular efficiency starts to slip. Energy, metabolism, clarity, recovery, even the way your skin looks.

That’s why we made this.

We didn’t put a sprinkle of NAD+ in here so we could put it on a label. We formulated it with 300 mg of pure NAD+, because if we’re going to support mitochondrial energy production and cellular repair, it has to be meaningful. I don’t believe in under-dosing. I never have.

But dose alone isn’t enough. Delivery matters just as much.

The NAD+ is encapsulated in our liposomal matrix to help protect it and support absorption and utilization. If something isn’t absorbed well, it doesn’t matter how good it looks on paper. The whole point is getting these compounds into the body in a way that they can actually be used.

And we’re very intentional about how we build our liposomes.

We use 60 mg of pure, sunflower-derived phosphatidylcholine. No soy, no generic lecithin blends, no cheap fillers. Pure phosphatidylcholine. There’s a difference.

Phosphatidylcholine is what your cell membranes are made of. It supports the structure of your brain cells, your nervous system, your eyes. The choline backbone contributes to acetylcholine production, which plays a role in memory and focus. So it’s not just there to form a liposome. It adds real value to the formula.

We don’t cut corners, and we don’t believe in charging premium prices for compromised formulations.

We also knew that if we were going to elevate NAD+, we needed to support methylation properly. That’s why we included 1,000 mg of TMG. Methylation influences detoxification, cardiovascular balance, neurotransmitter production, and liver function. If you push one pathway without supporting the others, you create imbalance. Biology doesn’t work in isolation.

We added 40 mg of apigenin because energy without recovery is a recipe for burnout. Supporting the nervous system matters. Repair matters.

We included Lutemax® at the clinically studied dose used in a 12 week, double blind trial that showed significant improvements in skin tone and brightness versus placebo. I care about beauty from the inside out. When cells are supported properly, it shows.

There’s also 20 mg of naturally derived caffeine from green coffee bean, just enough to complement mitochondrial output without overstimulation, and 7 mg of niacin to support NAD+ metabolism.

Even the base of the formula reflects who we are. Organic vanilla extract. Organic orange terpenes. Organic cocoa extract. Icelandic sea salt. No artificial masking agents. No synthetic junk to make it taste good at the expense of your body.

This formula is about fueling the body properly and supporting cellular repair consistently. When you give the cell what it needs, the whole system responds.

I am talking about foundational support.

For me personally, this is a big moment. As Chief Science Officer, I feel the responsibility of everything we put out. Our R&D team put real work into this. Into stability, into synergy, into getting the liposomal delivery right. This magnitude of NAD+ with this level of execution isn’t something I’ve seen done this way before.

I’m proud of it. Not because it’s flashy. But because it’s honest.
