Sodium ascorbate is one of the organic sodium salts originating from ascorbic acid, which is more commonly known as Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that humans are unable to synthesize naturally; thus making it important to consume through diet.

Sodium ascorbate, in particular, is a bioavailable and more alkaline form of vitamin C that is known for supporting the immune system and protecting the cells against free radical damage. It also plays a key role in the biosynthesis of collagen, L-Carnitine, neurotransmitters, and in the regulation of gene expression.

In a series of observational studies done on a cohort, it was found that higher levels of vitamin C in the body were associated with lower risks of hypertension, heart disease, and stroke.
