ACACIA GUM from the Acacia senegal tree Acacia gum, also referred to as gum arabic, is a hardened sap that is widely utilized in both commercial and medicinal settings. Its use dates back to ancient Egypt where it was used in cosmetics and to secure the bandages wrapped around mummies. The sap of the Acacia tree bubbles to the surface on the branches, causing no harm to the trees yet dependent on brave workers to climb and harvest it. It hardens during the drying, or curing, process to create a stabilizer that is natural, safe, and widely useful. Food companies use it to emulsify, stabilize, and prevent crystallization. Therapeutically it can reduce appetite, regulate cholesterol, improve dental health, relieve pain, and aid in digestion.
